Farewell
Dear, followers
L and I would like to personally thank you for supporting Dapper demeanor this past year. It has been an incredible journey for us both and we have loved every minute. That said, all journeys must come to an end at some point. This marks the end of Dapper demeanor as many of you all know it. L has begun a rigorous masters program in interior design (be on the look out for her...
L&T 20% off sale
Lord & Taylor is having a 20% off sale where all you have to do is type in SIMPLE at checkout to get 20% off both sale and regularly priced items.
I just scooped up this hooded rain jacket for $111 with tax and shipping (originally $175 before tax and shipping!). Now I can ride home in the rain (which is what normally happens) and stay dry…and stylish.
Hope you’re...

I adore my Banana Republic slim leg chinos and they were only $60 a pair (I got some in light grey and black) at full price!
Here is something very similar on BR’s site right now for $70 (with free shipping over $50):
And another option from Ann Taylor Loft for $70:
Hope that helps!!

Pleats are for Lovers
The discussion surrounding the current sartorial freshness of pleated pants has been going on for a little while on Tumblr as well as around the internet. Some say that they are great, fashion forward and should be in every man’s wardrobe. Other’s say never, EVER rock pleated pants as they are the male equivalent to “mom jeans”. I fall in between these two extremes:...

Don't Make Me Get My Belt
The title of this post was something I heard a lot as a kid… but fear not it is not on whether corporal punishment is appropriate for young kids. This is about the style trend of going beltless. I know trends aren’t something that is generally endorsed for guys here at Dd, but this is something worth discussing.
Recently, I posted about dress pants (trousers if you will) and how...

Remember Dress Pants?
Over the past few years, there has been a big push in the men’s style world of slim fitting chinos. The blogs I read do it, I do it, and with good reason: they are a great pant and they really can be dressed up or down. That said, actual dress pants have taken a backseat to their casual cousin. Well no longer! Dress pants are dope. Hit the jump and find out why.
Chinos are cherished...

Sartorial Role Model: Taye Diggs
I mentioned this earlier today on my personal blog, but Taye digs has been KILLING it on the sartorial front for the past year or so. The great thing about Taye’s look is that, for the most part, its so timeless. These pictures will look great 20+ years from now when kids are reposting them on whatever the big information sharing tool of that era is. Hit the jump for the secret to...

LEC Slim Chino: First Impressions
So there was some buzz on the Tumblrs about the LEC slim chinos that came out a few days ago. I scooped a pair and they came in today. Pics coming later today, but my first impressions were as follows:
-They are SUPER soft. No breaking in required.
-They definitely don’t have that dress pants sheen to them, but they aren’t really distressed at all. Just lightly washed.
-Fit...

Per the post below,
On her feet, everywhere, with anything. HA! Seriously, though. I am loving these shoes! The return to the simple toed, ankle boot is so nostalgic and American. I bought some myself in the winter that were red and I just adore them.
I would wear these shoes with leggings, jeggings, or straight leg jeans or even a slim pair of chinos. Nothing too long, because you want to see...

the Color Series: Part 2 - Complementary colors in...
Complementary color schemes are my fashion go-to for standing out in a crowd. They are unexpected magnets for second glances and compliments. Complementary colors are opposite one another on a color wheel. Read on to see why working with complementary colors in your wardrobe is the fast ticket to looking like you really know what you are doing when you get dressed.

Put This On: Adjust Your Timeline →
If you can’t afford to replace your wardrobe now, that’s fine.
First: simplify. Cut out the bullshit - you don’t need more, you need better. Then lengthen your timeline.
Every few months, buy something simple and great that will last. This usually means you shouldn’t buy the trendiest,…

White Oxford and Khaki Replacement
A few days ago, I posted a GQ article about why a white oxford and khakis aren’t appropriate everywhere during the summer. The question then is what are some other good choices. Below you will find some second options that might just become your first option in the summer time.
If the event you are going to is casual but classy, a pair of dark rinse jeans and a well fitting white shirt...

This is a really short, really good post from GQ on when a classic outfit won’t work. Basically, its the same reason you wouldn’t rock a red polo and khakis on your Target shopping trip. Dress smart (in the U.S. and U.K. senses of the phrase).

Rugby Summer Sale Is Off the Proverbial Chain →
Rugby’s just turned up the heat on their sale section. In an effort to make room for some early entrants into its fall collection, they threw a buncha stuff on sale and it’s time to reap the benefits. You can cop their famous Newbury slim chinos in quite a few colors for $49.99 and a bunch of blazers have been marked down. I haven’t checked out the women’s section, but I...

Whip It Real Hard
A lot of us are in the thick of summer. 90+ degree weather (I was talking to a friend in SC and she was mentioning the heat index was 110+!) and those of us that must wear a suit (whether it be to work or a formal function) are hurting. Dan T., The Style Blogger, recently began a series of posts on knowing your fabrics and this is especially important in the summer time. There are quite a few...

Men's Style Tip of the Day
Your blazers and suit jackets have pockets, so use them! Cell phones can go in either the exterior flap or interior pocket. Pens should go in the pen pocket (if your jacket has one). Wallets can go in interior pocket. Sunglasses can go in breast pockets when not in use (or when you are inside… where they should not be in use). Small Moleskins and checkbooks can go in interior pockets....

the Color Series: Part 1 - Monochromatic fashion
Monochromatic color schemes have been dominating the world of fashion in 2010. Monochromatic color schemes consist of wearing one color (hue) and any variation of it; whether it be a tone (color + grey), shade (color + black), or tint (color + white) of that color. It’s not an exact science, but it should definitely feel like you are wearing a very closely related color palette if you...

Flip-Flop Alternatives Part 2
For the second installment of flip-flop alternatives, we will turn out attention to some less obvious, bolder shoe options for guys.
The first one I want to focus on is the driving moc/loafer. A lot of younger guys tend to shy away from mocs and loafers because they have a reputation for being not as hip or trendy as other shoes. This is a huge misconception, though, and many times mocs and...

Get the look for less
Gant has a reversible jacket that is pretty similar to this one. This joint from Tommy Hilfiger and at $50 from Macy’s, it is a pretty suitable substitute. Tommy is doing a decent job at getting back to where it once was. We will see if his tailored line coming out this fall can really be that push that the brand needs to compete with Ralph Lauren.

Flip-Flop Alternatives Part 1
If you have paid any attention to style blogs the last few months, you will have noticed one consistent theme when it comes to footwear: men should not wear flip-flops. I agree wholeheartedly. The only reason to wear flip-flops when you are not near a pool or body of water is because you are an athlete and you are traveling to/from the field of play. For everyone else, flip-flops just...
Business Casual for Women in the Summer (for Lucy)
lucyhundley asked: Hello! I (young, twenty-ish woman) am looking at a variety of jobs in Virginia that have a “business casual” attire. Grown Man Essentials
Last night, I got off the phone with my best friend and he was telling me about how another friend was looking to upgrade his wardrobe. to bikini or not to bikini?

As the temperatures rise beyond bearable and the nearest bodies of water call out with a feverish desire akin to the sirens of Greek mythology, it’s all one can do to not break down and make the mistake of buying the least expensive OR smallest swimsuit she can find, and wear it to work, around town and beyond. "No, don't worry with your suitcase, dear"
I’ve been living out of a suitcase for almost a month now. The suitcase is too big to go on an airplane without overage charges decently sized, but still cannot contain even a fourth of my wardrobe. Spoiled American; I know, I know. There have been a few moments here and there where I want to pull out some hair, but mostly, the experience has been a good one. For instance, fewer...

What I wore to work today...
So, I have had this corded cotton suit jacket sitting on the hanger for a minute. The matching pants are at the tailors getting tapered, so I just threw on some grey chinos. Let me say, this outfit is definitely a “doing the best I can with what I have” type of fit. If I had it my way, the pants would be either navy or red, the shoes would be bucks (either brown, white, or red...
