What I wore to work today…

So, I have had this corded cotton suit jacket sitting on the hanger for a minute. The matching pants are at the tailors getting tapered, so I just threw on some grey chinos. Let me say, this outfit is definitely a “doing the best I can with what I have” type of fit. If I had it my way, the pants would be either navy or red, the shoes would be bucks (either brown, white, or red depending on pants color) not desert boots, and I would have gone sockless (had I known my supervisor wasn’t going to be in the office). But like I said, I did the best I could with what I had. Hit the jump for the details.

Silk pocket squares can be tricky, but this is how I like to rock them. Some guys prefer cotton over silk (what up Jon and Jesse over at Style Hunting!), but I think that a man should have a couple of silk squares for stuff like this. Everything would just look real flat and blah if I just had a white cotton/linen square.

I copped this tie off of The Tie Bar for $15 and it’s one of those things that I throw on to make things pop. I realize that it is a little busy, but it is small enough that rather than distracting my my fit it just adds an exclamation point to my more understated fits.

I was a nylon watch strap hater… until it got hot and my wrist was all sweaty from having a leather band on all day. They legitimately keep your wrist much cooler throughout the day than leather bands. I knew I wanted something a little loud, so I copped this neon joint from J. Crew for $15 and popped it on the Timex I had from Target (don’t waste your money on those $150 ones from J. Crew… mine came with a 10 year warranty too). Again, it’s small enough that the color isn’t distracting. If you are looking to add some color to an understated wardrobe but don’t know wear, accessories are the best way.
