For those of you from the north that have never really been to the south, there are quite a few towns named Lynchburg.  I said LYNCHburg.  One such town is in south central Virginia and it is just as scary as you think it is.  The one redeeming factor: it is home to the J. Crew return center and clearance store.  When people return their items to J. Crew via mail, they don’t go to some swanky place in NYC or even some call center in Jersey, they go to freakin’ Lynchburg, VA.  There are 2 clearance stores in Lynchburg, one that is just women’s clothes and another that is men’s clothes… with more women’s clothes.  I took a trip down there as it is only about 40 minutes away from where I live.  I went one time before and found nothing that excited me.  This time, however, I hit the jackpot.  A while back, J. Crew released a 3 button Irish linen Ludlow suit in British khaki and navy for $258 (they are still selling the 2 button version at that price).  It got marked down to $120 while on clearance somewhere else… then it came to the clearance store where they drop prices like bombs.  I got the jacket for 75% off the lowest marked price.  For those of you that can’t do the math, that’s $30!  I am a 2 button jacket kinda guy, but upon examining the construction I found that I could make it a 3/2 roll if I just hit the lapel with some steam real quick.  40L jackets are hard to come by in the store, but all the jackets they had were 40L!  I also grabbed a ribbon belt and a silk tie for $15 a pop.  With tax, I spent $63 even.  You can’t do that at your local J. Crew, or even a factory store.  If you live in VA and like J. Crew, it is definitely worth the drive to Lynchburg.  The deals are CRAZY!
