the Color Series: Part 1 - Monochromatic fashion
Monochromatic color schemes have been dominating the world of fashion in 2010. Monochromatic color schemes consist of wearing one color (hue) and any variation of it; whether it be a tone (color + grey), shade (color + black), or tint (color + white) of that color. It’s not an exact science, but it should definitely feel like you are wearing a very closely related color palette if you decide to try on this trend.
Read on to see why monochromatic ensembles are effortlessly smashing!

1- You’re going to look taller! A monochromatic color scheme allows the eye to more easily travel down the figure, since it doesn’t need stop and refocus with any major color changes.
2 - The look is appealing. There is something very easy on the eyes about pairing similar colors together. The trick is to keep the colors related, without being exact (just like your eyebrows; sisters, but not twins :)). So pairing a light tangerine silk blouse with a slightly richer orange pair of cropped pants is always a good idea. An exception to this concept would be when it comes to the color black. For whatever reason, I find it very unappealing to see mismatched black garments. Maybe that is just something I need to get over. Thoughts? Grey and black is a good idea however and still fits into the monochromatic formula.
3- The look is easy to manage. It’s hard to screw up mixing colors when they are so similar. Be confident in how great you are going to look! Go ahead and wear two or three variations of sunshine yellow!
On a quirky note, here is a two year old article on 5 New Yorkers who wear the same color, every. single. day. It might seem like overkill, but it seems to work for them.
